FAQ's

  • How do I get there?
We pick up all guests by boat in COAL HARBOUR, on Northern Vancouver Island, roughly 20 minutes from Quatsino Lodge. Coal Harbour is accessible by all paved roads, and you can find a summary of driving, flying, and shuttle options here (insert link to web page for travel). The Lodge is only accessible by boat.
  • Does Quatsino Lodge have special packages for youth?
Yes! We are family run and oriented and encourage kids to join the adventure. Reach out to us for details on youth pricing.
  • What should I wear?
West Coast Vancouver Island sees a wide variety of weather all summer long. Be prepared for anything and remember that layering is your friend. Although the boats are covered and heated, expect cold mornings on the water with a chance of rain at any time. Wool base layers are ideal for our climate and heavy-duty rain jackets and pants. Rubber boots are best for the boat and a clean pair of indoor shoes for the lodge. Quatsino Lodge provides rain gear and boots if needed. Sizes are limited so we recommend bringing your own if possible. Dinner is served at one large table with the other guests and the guides. Clean and casual dinner outfits are recommended.
  • What amenities does Quatsino Lodge provide with the rooms? What should I bring?
Quatsino Lodge provides all linens, duvets and pillows, towels, and basic amenities such as shampoo, body wash, hand soap. Bring personal toiletries. Hair dryers are available upon request.
  • Do I need to bring any fishing gear?
No, the fishing guides provide all rods, reels, tackle, and other equipment needed.
  • Do I need to bring a cooler for my fish?
Airline-approved coolers are provided and will keep your catch frozen for up to 24 hours, but if you plan to travel a long distance we recommend you bring your own or find a hotel that allows you to store your fish in their freezer. Either way, our dock staff will vacuum seal, label, freeze, and pack your fish into the coolers ready for transport upon departure.
  • I’ve never fished before; will that be OK?
Absolutely! Our guides accommodate all skill levels, from complete beginners to well-seasoned pros. Their job is finding the fish and giving guests the best experience in catching them. The guides will set everything up but be prepared to do the hard work of reeling it in (the fun part!) once a fish hits the lure.
  • Can I buy alcohol at Quatsino Lodge?
No, Quatsino Lodge does not sell alcohol. You are welcome to bring your own in. Non-alcoholic drinks are included with your package. The closest liquor stores are in Port Hardy.
  • How do I secure my booking?
A deposit of $1,000 per person is due at the time of booking to secure your spot. If a deposit is not paid by February 1st in the year of your trip, the dates will be reopened for others to book.
  • When is the balance due?
The balance is due at the end of your trip. A staff member will discuss billing with you on the last night or last morning of your stay. We accept e-transfer, cheque, or credit card payments.
  • How do I tip?
Your total gratuity should range from 15%-20% of the trip cost, as per industry standard for guided fishing trips. You can choose to separate the guide portion from the house-staff portion or leave that decision up to management.
